About Gary


​Gary has lived in Ward 7 with his wife and two daughters since 1999. His daughters were born at RVH and also attended school and college here in Barrie. Gary is a retired police detective and currently also works part-time as an Adjudicator. Serving as your Councillor for the past eight years he has brought a library to our area, resurfaced more roads in the Ward than ever before and has a splash pad, pickleball courts and new basketball courts coming to the Peggy Hill Community Centre in 2027. Senior and expectant mothers parking was recently added along with free transit for seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays. These initiatives have come about through requests from you the residents.

Gary has represented the City of Barrie on the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, Tourism Barrie, Nottawasaga Conservation Authority, the Spirit Catcher Committee, Physician Recruitment Committee, Barrie Hydro Holdings, Community Safety and Well-Being Committee and is currently the Chair of the Finance and Responsible Governance Committee. Through his work as Chair the city has reduced debt by 20%, increased reserves by 57% and achieved a AAA credit rating for the first time in the city's history. This allows the city to borrow at a much lower rate and achieve for infrastructure projects and repairs than ever before.  

With the new south end community centre being merged into one mega 100-acre location this has saved tax payers $43M all the while providing more services than two smaller locations. There new Holly library has been such a success that we now also two more library locations coming to the new community centre and along with the Letitia area. This will provide better service closer to the communities they serve. 

As a graduate of Humber College, the University of Guelph-Humber and the University of Toronto Rotman School of Management Gary uses his education and life experience to get things done for our community.

- with a law enforcement background he is a problem solver that is ready to listen and act on your concerns within the ward
- CMMII designated as a Certified Municipal Manager by the Ontario Municipal Management Institute
- a graduate of the Rotman School of Business MBA Essentials For Managers Program 
- Incident Management System (IMS 200) certified through Emergency Management Ontario 
- as a long-time resident of Ward 7 he has seen the ward grow and as a fellow Ward 7 resident, shares your concerns and wants to see it grow effectively and efficiently, while remaining on budget.
