Barrie is a tremendous place to live!
Ward 7 has been home for my family and I for the past 16 plus years. I am one of only two candidates out of the 12, that actually lives here in Ward 7. As a fellow Ward 7 resident, I feel that it is important that we have a Ward 7 resident, as our voice at City Hall. Thus my slogan: From Ward 7, For Ward 7. Both of our daughters were born in Barrie at Royal Victoria Hospital, one of the premiere hospitals in the province with the addition of the Regional Cancer Centre. We made the move to Barrie as this is where we wanted to have and raise our family. As a member of the judicial system for the past 26 years being community minded is a way of life. Serving on the volunteer Board of Directors for the Ontario Association of Crime Stoppers since 2010 has been an extremely rewarding position and I have always had an interest in the future of our city. It is for this reason that I am seeking your support to be your City Councillor in Ward 7 as we move into some very interesting times with our growth.
As a fellow long-time resident of Ward 7, I share your day to day concerns and struggles. My children go to school with your children and unlike most other candidates, I reside right here in Ward 7 with you. My platform is based on four cornerstones: Responsible Spending, Smart Intensification, Proactive Infrastructure and Enhanced Community Safety. Each year the budget is a huge task to tackle and to ensure that increases are kept within reason. As a fellow Ward 7 tax payer I am committed to ensuring that these increases are kept to a minimum and that we receive services and value for our tax dollars. Our part of Barrie is a hidden gem that is about to grow with the planned intensification along the Essa Road corridor. We are home to Barrie's technology hub, car dealer row and the best musical Christmas light display in the city on Violet Street. Five major arterial corridors have been identified with the 2009 Intensification Study and Essa Road is slated as the first phase of development. I will work with residents and developers to ensure that we have an Essa corridor that we are all proud of.
The traffic congestion in the 400 and Mapleview corridor that we face each and every day becomes unbearable at times. By timing the traffic lights to turn green simultaneously for east - west traffic will ease the congestion that we currently experience. The south-west area of Barrie is long overdue for a satellite public library and what better place to house it than at the Holly Community Centre here in Ward 7. Community safety is paramount and needs to be accomplished at a reasonable cost to taxpayers. With the enhanced use of low cost traffic calming devices we can ensure that our city streets become safer. Through the implementation and promotion of community based programs such as Neighbourhood Watch and Crime Stoppers, Barrie will remain Canada's safest city. If elected with my legal background I will ensure that measures are put into place, so that no other city managers have the ability to defraud taxpayers for years before being detected, as occurred this past October.
I am seeking your support as a fellow long term resident of Ward 7 on February 1st, 2016, to continue on with the great work that has been done in this ward over the past nine years. With only two of the candidates including myself residing in Ward 7, I feel that no one can or will represent our best interests here in the southwest end of the city, than a fellow Ward 7 resident can. Together we can continue improving our quality of life for our families for decades to come. I look forward to meeting you on the campaign trail.
Happy New Year and best wishes to you and your family in 2016!
We Can Build A Better Ward 7, Together!
